Just a few episodes into Season 2 of The Muppet Show and already, it is just clicking. The show feels like it has an identity and everything about it is so much smoother.
Including the guest stars…
An early episode of comedian Rich Little doing impressions of the Muppets while being heckled by Statler and Waldorf had me cracking up. (Although the same is not true for many YouTube commenters… how tragic.)
[It starts at 5:05.]
How great is that? Now, let’s talk about this Rich Little, who made his TV debut on The Judy Garland Show (amazing) and also had a spot on The Julie Andrews Hour (lucky man!). Clearly, he has worked with legends.
What I love most about his guest spot (and there are plenty of things to love + another clip I will feature at another time) is that Statler + Waldorf are actually complimentary for once and Miss Piggy takes jealousy to a whole new level.
Rich Little’s episode was a combo of everything I love about The Muppet Show: Broadway! Drama! Laughs! Even more ironic, I tend me to less excited with guest stars that I don’t know and that was the case with Rich Little. (WHO IS THAT?) But, in the end, it turned out to be one of my favorites.
